Easy DIY Pumpkin Flower Arrangement with Grocery Store Flowers

Sometimes the prettiest things really are the simplest.

I grabbed a $24 bouquet of fresh flowers from Walmart, a pumpkin from the grocery store, and a little floral foam—and about 10 minutes later, I had this gorgeous fall centerpiece.

No expensive florist. No complicated flower-arranging skills. And you don’t even have to cut open the pumpkin!

The flowers look like they’re growing right out of the top of the pumpkin, making this such an easy centerpiece for a fall table, Thanksgiving gathering, hostess gift, or even a sweet gift for a friend.

And this is exactly what Finding Easy is all about: taking something simple and making it feel special without making it complicated.

What You’ll Need

  • 1 pumpkin with a sturdy stem
  • 1 grocery store bouquet — mine was $24 from Walmart
  • Wet floral foam
  • Sharp scissors or floral shears
  • Water
  • Dawn dish soap for washing the pumpkin

How to Make a Pumpkin Flower Centerpiece

1. Choose the Right Pumpkin

Look for a pumpkin with a nice, sturdy stem. The stem is important because we’re going to use it to help hold the floral foam in place.

You don’t need a perfect pumpkin! Pick one with a shape and color you like that will sit flat on your table.

2. Wash Your Pumpkin

Before adding the flowers, I washed the outside of my pumpkin in the sink with a little Dawn dish soap and water.

Rinse it well and let it dry completely.

3. Soak Your Floral Foam

Use wet floral foam designed for fresh flowers and soak it in water according to the package directions.

You don’t need an entire brick. I cut mine roughly in half, which was plenty for this arrangement.

4. Attach the Floral Foam

Once the foam is saturated, gently push it down over the pumpkin stem.

You want the stem to help anchor the foam so it stays securely on top of the pumpkin.

And here’s the best part: you aren’t cutting into the pumpkin at all.

5. Cut Your Flowers

Take your grocery store bouquet apart and trim the stems much shorter than they came.

I like to start with some of the greenery and larger flowers to establish the overall shape, then fill in with the smaller blooms.

6. Add the Flowers

Insert each stem directly into the wet floral foam.

Keep turning the pumpkin as you work so the arrangement looks full from every angle. Let some flowers sit lower around the pumpkin and allow a few taller stems and greenery to give it movement and height.

There’s no need to make it perfect. That’s part of what makes it pretty!

An Easy Fall Centerpiece in About 10 Minutes

That’s it.

A grocery store pumpkin, a simple bouquet of flowers, half a brick of floral foam, and about 10 minutes.

It looks like you spent far more time—and money—on it than you actually did.

This would be beautiful as a Thanksgiving centerpiece, fall dinner table decoration, hostess gift, teacher gift, birthday gift, or a simple way to bring some fall color into your home.

If you’re giving it as a gift, you could even choose flowers in the recipient’s favorite colors.

Finding Easy Tip

Don’t overlook the grocery store when you’re decorating your home.

You don’t always need specialty flowers, expensive decorations, or a complicated Pinterest project to make something beautiful. Sometimes it’s simply looking at an ordinary bouquet and thinking, What else could I do with this?

Use what you can easily find. Be creative. Don’t overcomplicate it.

Pretty doesn’t have to be expensive—and simple things are often the best things.

That’s Finding Easy.
