The Easy Way I Freeze Costco Chicken Breasts

The Easy Way I Freeze Costco Chicken Breasts

I almost always buy my chicken breasts in bulk from Costco. I love the way they come portioned because each individual section is just about the right amount of chicken for our family.

But I learned one thing the hard way: don’t put the whole package straight into the freezer!

If you freeze the packages while they’re still connected and stacked together, they can freeze right on top of each other. Then when you need one package for dinner, good luck getting it apart without thawing the whole thing.

Thankfully, there’s a really easy fix.

My Easy Costco Chicken Freezer Hack

As soon as I get home from Costco, I take a minute to prep the chicken before putting it in the freezer.

  1. Cut the individual chicken sections apart along the seams.
  2. Make sure each package is completely sealed before freezing.
  3. Lay each package flat and individually on a freezer shelf.
  4. Let them freeze completely before stacking or organizing them together.

That’s it!

Once they’re frozen solid, you can stack them, stand them up, or move them into a freezer bin. Because they were frozen separately, you can easily grab just one package whenever you need it.

Why I Love Buying Chicken This Way

Buying chicken in bulk saves me from constantly running to the grocery store, but I especially love that Costco has already divided the chicken into smaller portions.

For our family, I can grab one section from the freezer, thaw it, and have just about the right amount for dinner.

No separating a giant frozen package. No trying to pry frozen chicken apart. And no thawing more chicken than I actually need.

One Little Step That Makes Dinner Easier

This is one of those tiny things that takes an extra minute when you’re putting groceries away but makes life so much easier later.

And that’s exactly the kind of shortcut I’m always looking for.

If you’re already buying your chicken breasts in bulk, cut the packages apart and freeze them flat before stacking them. Your future self will be glad you did!
