DIY Giant Christmas Wreath: Jesus at the Center

DIY Giant Christmas Wreath: Jesus at the Center

This might be one of my favorite Christmas projects yet! We made a giant DIY Christmas wreath, and this year, we put Jesus right at the center.

It makes a huge statement, but the actual construction is surprisingly simple. We started with a round balloon arch frame, added pool noodles to give it some fullness, and then covered the whole thing with garland and thousands of twinkle lights.

You definitely need a friend for this one—mostly because wrapping hundreds of feet of garland around a giant circle can make you a little dizzy! 😂

But the finished wreath was absolutely worth it.

What We Used

Here’s what we used to make our giant Christmas wreath:

  • Large round balloon arch frame
  • 24 pool noodles
  • Zip ties
  • 648 feet of garland
  • 2,000 cluster lights
  • Large Christmas bow
  • Jesus figure for the center

I linked all of the supplies I used so you can easily find everything and recreate the project at home.

Shop everything I used here:

Step 1: Build the Giant Wreath Frame

We started with a large round balloon arch frame. These frames are normally used to create those big circular balloon displays you see at parties, but it turned out to be the perfect base for an oversized Christmas wreath.

Next, we attached 24 pool noodles around the entire circle using zip ties.

The pool noodles add thickness to the frame so that once the greenery is added, the wreath looks much fuller and more substantial.

Don’t worry about making this part pretty. The pool noodles will eventually be completely covered!

Step 2: Wrap It in Garland

Then came the workout!

We used approximately 648 feet of garland to cover the wreath.

We wrapped the garland around and around the pool noodles until the entire frame was covered and looking like one giant Christmas wreath.

And this is the part where I highly recommend having a friend!

With a wreath this big, having one person help feed and wrap the garland makes the job much easier—and keeps you from getting quite as dizzy going around that circle over and over again.

Step 3: Add LOTS of Twinkle Lights

Once the greenery was finished, we added 2,000 cluster lights.

These are my favorite twinkle cluster lights. I actually use them in five or six different places around my house at Christmas because I love them so much.

They have a remote, give you tons of tiny twinkling lights, and make Christmas decorations look extra magical.

Would I add even more lights?

Absolutely.

I like my Christmas lights REALLY full. But 2,000 lights still gave this giant wreath a beautiful glow.

Step 4: Put Jesus at the Center

This is the part that made the entire project special.

Our theme this month is Jesus at the Center, so that’s exactly what we did.

Once the wreath was finished and hung, we placed Jesus right in the middle.

Then we topped the wreath with one giant Christmas bow to finish it off.

The finished wreath is beautiful on its own, but I love what it represents even more.

With all of the decorating, shopping, cooking, parties, gifts, and everything else that comes along with Christmas, this giant wreath is a pretty big reminder of what we want to keep at the center of it all.

Jesus is at the center of Christmas this year.

And I absolutely love how it turned out.

If you make one, I’d love to see it!
